Hello,

We have a cisco 2821 ISR with IOS c2800nm-advsecurityk9-mz.124-3g.bin factory shipped image, but when we upgrade the IOS to c2800nm-advipservicesk9-mz.124-7c.bin

i notice that there is a diference in the "show version" command:

-------------------------------

Cisco IOS Software, 2800 Software (C2800NM-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.4(7c), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)

---question--->ROM: Cisco IOS Software, 2800 Software (C2800NM-ADVSECURITYK9-M), Version 12.4(3g), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)

Router uptime is 5 days, 19 hours, 57 minutes

System returned to ROM by reload at 22:34:12 PCTime Fri Apr 20 2007

System restarted at 17:36:21 UTC Fri Apr 20 2007

System image file is "flash:c2800nm-advipservicesk9-mz.124-7c.bin"

-------------------------------

my question is: what about that line, the boot isnt upgraded completely? or i skip a step in the process?

i use the boot system flash: command

Hi there,

This line describes the bootstrap image residing in the ROM, which is not upgraded when you upgrade the IOS, there is not harm your router will operate normally with no risks.

HTH, please rate if it does help,

Mohammed Mahmoud.

a ok, I thought that i nedded to upgrade the bootstrap or something like that

Thank you very much

Sometimes an additional bootstrap upgrade is required.

It has been my experience that you tend to encounter this with older hardware or when making a major jump in IOS versions. I have seen this on 4000 series switches and Cat6k Sup II. If you run into some older hardware it is definitely a good idea to check for an updated bootstrap.

HTH - pls rate if helpful

Thanks, but you know where in cisco.com i can find those updates?

Juan Garcia

Hi there,

Not all Cisco platforms can have the bootstrap upgraded, most of the them you'll have to replace the chip itself.

If your device supports it use this link:

HTH, please rate if it does help,

Mohammed Mahmoud.
