Re: IOS upgrade of 3750-stacked switch

Navin,

The most easiest way to upgrade the stack is through Cisco Network Assistant CNA software that comes free with the 3750's. You can download it through Cisco Website.

You need the .tar images and can upgrade all switches easily in 1 shot.

You need to allow HTTP access to the switch:

# ip http server

# ip http authentication local

Re: IOS upgrade of 3750-stacked switch

Hi All,

I do know the upgrading the ios from cli mode & i prefer.

Please any one guide me on downgrading ,when the uploading file gets corrupted.

Thanks,

Downgrading requires the same process. Be aware that downgrading may cause configuration issues dependant on version/feature set.

Re: IOS upgrade of 3750-stacked switch

Please someone confirm me ,that this command is helpfull in downgrading the IOS

delete /force /recursive flash:c3750-ipbase-mz.122-35.SE5

Purple

Re: IOS upgrade of 3750-stacked switch

delete /force /recursive flash:c3750-ipbase-mz.122-35.SE5 , the only thing that does is delete a image "directory" and everything in it if you need to add space for new images .

Re: IOS upgrade of 3750-stacked switch

That will only delete the current IOS that you are using. You will need to copy the new IOS via TFTP, and reboot to take affect.

Re: IOS upgrade of 3750-stacked switch

Appreciate the response for my problem.

I need a clarification on...

1) Can i upgrade from c3750-ipbase-mz.122-25.SEE2.bin to c3750-ipbasek9-mz.12.2-25.SEE4 or c3750-ipbasek9-mz.12.2-44.SE2 ,which one is compatable.

2) If i upgrade to c3750-ipbasek9-mz.12.2-25.SEE4 ,while upgrading if my image gets corrrupted then what is the procedure to downgrade (not xmodem method).

Please suggest.

Thanks

Navin

Re: IOS upgrade of 3750-stacked switch

1:) You can upgrade to either release that you desire, and suits your needs best. The 12.2-44.SE2 has many added features since the 12.2-25 releases. I don't see any compatibility issues that you might incur

2:)Yes you can Xmodem to load an image if it fails, but I wouldn't count on that happening. Unfortunately TFTP is not supported in the 3750 Rommon mode.

Hi Mark,

Could you ,please tell me the downgrade method. It will be very helpfull.

Thanks,

Re: IOS upgrade of 3750-stacked switch

There is no different method to downgrading. It is the same all around the board. The only problem that you might face is that you could be using a feature that is not supported by the downgraded release. The switch will boot whichever IOS that you have installed and that you have configured to boot.

Re: IOS upgrade of 3750-stacked switch

Hi,

Make sure to backup the current config and current IOS to TFTP server. Then upgrade with the new IOS and reboot. If there are new features then Switch will read and update the Running-config by loading the startup-config. And I suggest you should do copy running-config to startup-config at this point. This will make the startup-config compatible with the new IOS.

In worst case if you hit any problem and you need to go back to the previous setup then remove new IOS and load the old one from the tftp. Then delete the startup-config and load the backup-config from the tftp.

I personally like to use CNA when upgrading IOS to the Switches as it is much easier to perform upgrades and it updates boot variables accordingly. I do prefer to use Telnet when configuring the Cisco kit. But it is your own choice.

please do let us know how did it go

Hope this Helps

Re: IOS upgrade of 3750-stacked switch

Hi All,

I tried upgrading the IOS through the TFTP but it is alaways giving a error "error reading the tftp://10.0.0.100/c3750-ipbase9-mz.122-44.se.bin" & lastly it says less less memory.

I had pasted the dir of both the flashes

Master#dir flash1:

Directory of flash1:/

2 -rwx 27 Jun 24 2008 19:21:32 +05:30 private-config.text

3 -rwx 5976 Jun 24 2008 19:21:32 +05:30 config.text

4 -rwx 736 Mar 1 1993 06:25:56 +05:30 vlan.dat

5 drwx 192 Mar 1 1993 05:36:08 +05:30 c3750-ipbase-mz.122-25.SEE

Could somebody suggest me that shall i go for upgrading the switch through ROMMOn method & i doesn't know the procedure to go ahead.

Please suggest.

Re: IOS upgrade of 3750-stacked switch

The problem is that you don't have enough free space for both images. You have a few choices to make this work. You can delete via the CLI the existing IOS with the .bin file, or using the .tar file you can use the /overwrite command to remove the old image.
