IOS upgrade on a WS-CBS3020-HPQ HP Blade switch

I was in the process of ugrading a WS-CBS3020-HPQ switch

from ios cbs30x0-lanbasek9-mz.122-37.SE.bin to cbs30x0-ipbasek9-mz.122-50.SE1.bin

I want to be able to boot from the new image and have the old image as a backup

After copying over the new image to the root of flash via tftp, I entered the following

commands:

boot system flash:cbs30x0-ipbasek9-mz.122-50.SE1.bin

boot system flash:cbs30x0-lanbasek9-mz.122-37.SE/cbs30x0-lanbasek9-mz.122-37.SE.bin

The switch booted from the old image

I noticed that the Configuration register is set to a value of 0xF I tried to change it to 0x2102 and got

% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

Did you delete old boot statement first if not delete the old then put the new image first for the boot statement and then input the old one second . What does it show when you do a "show boot" ? Is it in the right order?

Thing is there is not an existing boot command and when I enter them

Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.

RDRLSWB204B(config)#boot system flash:cbs30x0-ipbasek9-mz.122-50.SE1.bin

RDRLSWB204B(config)#$30x0-lanbasek9-mz.122-37.SE/cbs30x0-lanbasek9-mz.122-37.SE.bin

The switch accepts the commands without an error but when I do a show run immediately after the boot commands are no where to be seen when I do a show run.

And as I said before I can't change the config-register from 0xF to 0x2102 with the "config-register 0x2102" command

As far as I know you will not see the boot statements in the running config, like you do with e.g. a Cat6500. I believe you have to do a 'show boot' to verify what the boot sequence is.

The info still shows the old image

RCHISWB209A#show boot

BOOT path-list : flash:/cbs30x0-lanbasek9-mz.122-40.SE2/cbs30x0-lanbasek9-mz.122-40.SE2.bin

Config file : flash:/config.text

Private Config file : flash:/private-config.text

Enable Break : no

Manual Boot : no

HELPER path-list :

Auto upgrade : yes

Auto upgrade path :

Just had the chance to check. You are using the wrong syntax. The rigt one is:

conf t

SW1(config)#boot system ?

WORD pathlist of boot file(s) ... file1;file2;...

SW1(config)#boot system flash:/cbs30x0-ipbasek9-mz.122-50.SE1/cbs30x0-ipbasek9-mz.122-50.SE1.bin;flash:cbs30x0-ipbasek9-mz.122-37.SE.bin

Note the semicolon and all boot statements in one line.
