ipsec vpn

Hi all

After reading about the ipsec vpn, am i right in saying there is no encapsulation involved, it is purely routed ip and only encryption unlike l2tp and pptp

is this correct

Re: ipsec vpn

Hi,

IPsec consists of two sub-protocols namely Encapsulated Security Payload (ESP) and Authentication Header (AH).

From point-A to point-B

Original Packet (Private IP) > Encapsulated Packet (Real/Public IP) > Encrypted Packet

IP Packet is encapsulated inside another IP Packet before encryption.

Here's a good document http://csrc.nist.gov/publications/nistpubs/800-77/sp800-77.pdf

Regards,

Dandy
