Hi all, is there any difference between voip and ipt ?

Hi Carl,
There is not much of a fucntionla difference between IPT and VOIP.
In vOIP the call control decisions are taken by the gateway or the gaetkeeper whereas in IPT the call control decisions are taken care the Call manager which is basically a centralised solution for voice.

can you eleborate on this please, what do most people use? i thought they are the same thing ?

i you have an existing lan/wan/classic PBX you can begin with VoIP. you need to buy some devices that will connect your routers to PBX, so that calls to remote sites will be converted to IP traffic and sent via wan. this is VoIP.
now if you have a new location, instead of buying a classic PBX, you can buy a software PBX (callmanager) and some IP phones. voice calls to remote sites will go via WAN. this IPT.
