IPX on a 3560

Hello,

I think I already know the answer to this, but need to ask.

I have 2 3560 48PS switches I need to do IPX switching on. Current software is 12.2.SEB4, IP Services. Older versions of the IOS have all been defered (I was looking for an EMI version).

My question is, does anyone out there know of a way to do layer 3 IPX routing to this router. I would like to avoid doing layer two to the switch, as it would be coming back into my core. We do have people using the Novell client, so IP only is out of the question (sadly).

Any help would be much appreciated.

Jim

Re: IPX on a 3560

Hi Jim,

Basically, the Cat3560 only supports IP routing and does not support IPX nor Appletalk. To get packets to switch across vlans, we must use a feature called Fallback Bridging. You must have an EMI image instead of an SMI.

For more info about Fallback Bridging, please visit this URL:
