If at all we decide to replace the Sup720 should we replace SUP720 in slot 7 or SUP720 in slot 8 from this log. The fault has happened only once and I said to customer just to monitor it, but he insists to replace SUP720 in slot 7 although I would have gone for slot 8.

In a CAT6513 with a SUP720 in slot 7 and one in slot 8, my understanding is that when the switch is powered ON, the first SUP720 to pass POST will become the Active and the other will become Standby. Or am I wrong and is it always the SUP720 in lower number slot (in this case 7) will become Active and slot 8 Standby until a failure occurs on the module in slot 7, at which time slot 8 will become master.

Alphonse,

AFAIK supervisors will not come up in active/standby based on the slot number. Whichever SUP comes up first will be the active supervisor. There are many times I have seen a supervisor in the bottom slot become the active supervisor. Try re-seating the supervisor in slot 8 and see if that clears up the problem.

HTH,

Mark
