Is there any adapter which can change a Giga Ethernet port to Giga optical port?

Hi All,

I have a 2950T switch which has 2 giga ethernet ports. There is one deployment I must use multimode fiber to connect two switches. I want to use 2950T for the deployment. But this switch doesn't have optical interface. I wounder whether we have the adapter to do that. I know there is adapter which change optical to ethernet.

Thanks.

Lou

Lou-

You'll have to use an external media convertor like the following.

Hope it helps.

Hi Lou,

I'll second Collin's advice.

You could also look at Black Box and Allied Telesis for transceivers. I don't think Cisco do them.

I'd definately recommend getting a transceiver that will pass on no carrier errors between the different media types. Not all do this and it will potentially save you headaches in the future, particurarly in the case of cableing faults!
