Is this a hardware issue? 3550 switch, boot

Hi, I power on my 3550 switch and I see the following behavior:

The LED's on the left panel (by the MODE buttom) blink non stop.

All swichports LED remain on, steady forever.

Console output displays few garbage characters and nothing happens. No switch IOS or startup output at all is displayed on console.

Let me know if you think I can repair this or else I will just trash this switch.

Sounds like the switch has had it. If you purchased the appliance from an authorized Cisco distributor, then you may have or avail of the Lifetime warranty (10-Business Day turnaround).

Hope this helps.

I would try different speeds on your terminal emulator and see if those garbage characters turn into something you can read . Maybe someone change the config register and it may just be stuck in rommon or something , if so then it is recoverable , if not then get rid of it .
