Mirinda,

Once you configure the VSS there will be only one Active Plane.

Hence what ever you configure that would automatically present. You will not hae/get the option to configure on second switch. There will be only once active plan and what ever you configure that would be reflected to other automatically.

You need to configure both the devices after which both the switches will form the VSS:

Best documents :

Here is a white paper on VSS to help you get started:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps9336/white_paper_c11_429338.pdf

Also  here is our 6500 VSS configuration guide:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.2SX/configuration/guide/vss.html

Configuration document for this -

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.2SX/configuration/guide/vss.html#wp1130268

https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-29472

Simple way:

# host VSS

#switch virtual domain 100  >>> Domain id should be same on both the switch.

# Switch 1    --------------------------- Switch 2 at the other switch.

# int po1

# switch vitual link 1 >>>> Defining the Virtual link to Po1. (VSL link)

int t5/4

channel-group 1 mode on >>> Assining the portchannel.

#Switch convert mode virtual >>>> This will convert the standalone machine to VSS and it reboots automatically.

# reload >> This will reload both the VSS chasis

# redundancy reload shelf 1/2 >> To reload each chasis in vss 1/.2 defines the switch ids.
