LAN Optimization - measurement tools for benchmarking

Hello,

I am assigned to work on a LAN optimization project. Where provide solution to upgrade current infrastructure from various hardware to Cisco LAN switches.

My question:

1. Is there a tools to measure current performance (LAN utilization/LAN port utilization/etc)? where i can do a comparison after the upgrade.

2. What tool is available to manage the LAN switches beside CiscoWorks / CNA (Cisco Network Assistant) ?

3. Any standard best practise i can apply?

Would appreciate you to share your experience and recommendation.

If you want something to manage the switches solar can do that as well for a cost as can CISCO LMS which will set you back a few thousand dollars!
