link is slow for catalyst 2950 and 6500

Hi,

I have connected 2950 swicth with 6500 by trunk connection and i have allowed only 2 vlans (data vlan and management vlan) through that trunk.

when i try to login to management vlan the response for the command typing is slow.( when i type command it stucks and then it is ok)

but there are other swicthes connected with same vlan that are all working fine.

can any one help me.

could you just post the log "show logging" on 2950 & "show logging buffer" on 6500.

Hi,

I have connected the 2950 with two of 6500 switches with redundant connection, please see below log as 2950 as edge switch and 6513A and 6513B as core switch connections.

at 6500 switch the interfaces 10/100/1000 Mbps and 2950 is working on 10/100Mbps

Verify link settings are the same either auto on both sides or hardcoded on both sides , sounds like a speed/duplex mismatch.

at coreswitch side it is 10/100/1000 Mbps and 2950 side 10/100 Mbps both are auto duplex and auto speed mode only.

Everything seems to be OK. No errors on the port, not enough broadcast on the links and also in the vlan. This should work fine hmm..

I see that you have two links running from 2950 to 6500. One of them should be in blocking state.

Check "show spanning-tree vlan 2" and also for 254.

On which switch you are facing the problem 2950 or 6500.

What if you take one of the link out. does it improve. What if we can try port bundeling both the links from 2950 to 6500.

i checked the spanning tree in 2950 switch spanning root is for the 6500(B) swicth because the root bridge all even vlan 6500(B) is root bridge.

Please check the processor utilization on all three switches. "sh proc cpu" and memory utililization "sh proc mem" if possible post the outputs.

Hi Sarbudeen, you have done the following config on both switches:-

switchport trunk native vlan 999

switchport trunk allowed vlan 2,254

Please allow vlan 999 on the trunk and then check. Please let me know in case it still doesnt work.

Hi Jafar,

I have 3560 and other 2900XL models it doesn't give this problem also according to the client security required only data vlans and management should be alloed in the trunk.

But the same config is working for all other location with out any problem.

I don't think the link is the problem . Is it possible that you are running tacacs and you have an extended tacacs timeout period , if the period is longer and the switch cannot reach the tacacs server then it will appear to hang on initial login and then move on to the default passwords . Maybe you can post the whole 2950 config .

I have not configured this switches for the TACACS, it is working with enable password only.
