link pass through

hi all,

I have a router and a link toward a transceiver (copper/fiber) with the function "link pass through" but it's not possible to manage the transceiver and mirroring a port for a probe.

So I think to use a switch with GBIC modul but i don't know how it's possible to have the same function "link pass through" on the switch. When the fiber is breakdown i want to disable the link between the router and the switch.

Thanks for your help

Hello Feeder392,

the switch would keep the port up even if the other side goes down.

you should use  dynamic routing or reliable static routing with object tracking to detect far end failure

see

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_3/12_3x/12_3xe/feature/guide/dbackupx.html

the switch could allow you to setup a monitoring session

Hope to help

Giuseppe
