Logging levels

What is your logging level set to on switches? I'm thinking of logging everything to the syslog for my server farms and core switches because I don't want anything to be missed. However I was thinking of something more extreme for my access layer switches. I don't want to see messages everytime someone reboots a PC.

Hello

Normally access switches do not create any logs during normal operation besides when user ports go up or down. I find it good practice to configure all users ports with the following interface mode command:

no logging event link-status

That way you still get notified if one of your uplinks goes down and then also I find no more logs are generated unless something goes wrong like a port violation or duplex mismatch

Thanks for that, I wasn't even aware of that command.

I would agree with you that normally functioning networks logging from the access layer switches wouldn't be necessary other than perhaps major events and core dumps but I have a bit of an abnormal network.
