mac address problem

Hi,

I have a simple setup.

ASA

|

Switch

|

AIX Server and Windows Servers

AIX:

Ping Local = Ok

Ping ASA = Ok

Ping Switch = Not Ok

Ping Windows = Not Ok

Switch:

Ping Local = Ok

Ping ASA = Ok

Ping Windows = Not Ok

Ping AIX = Not Ok

ASA:

Ping Local = Ok

Ping Switch = Ok

Ping Windows = Ok

Ping AIX = Not Ok

Windows:

Ping Local = Ok

Ping ASA = Ok

Ping Switch = Ok

Ping AIX = Not Ok

Notice the following:

- From Windows Servers "arp -a" AIX MAC Address is the same as ASA MAC Address.

- From Switch "sh arp/mac" AIX MAC Address is correct.

- From ASA "sh arp" AIX MAC Address is correct.

No NAT, No static arp entry in ASA. No static arp entry in AIX and Windows.

Anyone experience the same and found out the cause?

Hi Dandy

Haven't come across this before but one thing that stands out is that the windows server thinks the ASA mac-address and the AIX mac-address are the same.

Can you confirm that IP's/subnet masks/default-gateways are consistent across all the devices.

Assuming they are it might be worth turning off proxy-arp on the inside interface of the ASA device. The ASA should not be responding for the AIX but it is worth testing.

Thanks for replying.

I have to correct the information earlier provided. There is an NAT configuration for AIX and one of the Windows Server. We also found out that NAT direction is wrong, after correcting it things are working smoothly now.

Turning off proxy-arp is a good idea, though I haven't have time to do it :)
