I am trying to configure the command "mac-address-table synchronize" under global config mode. But when I enter the command

Cisco(config)#mac-address-table ?

It doesnt show the synchronize option?

any help would be appreciated!

Re: mac-address-table synchronise command

Hello Veesri,

=================================================

From the 6500 master command list http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/lanswitch/command/reference/lsw_m1.html#wp1143362 =>

mac-address-table synchronize

To synchronize the Layer 2 MAC address table entries across the Policy Feature Card (PFC) and all the Distributed Forwarding Cards (DFCs), use the mac-address-table synchronize command in global configuration mode.

=================================================

But as per you IOS file name (s3223_..) you are running a Sup32 supervisor card.

=================================================

From Cat 6500 SUP32 Q&A link http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps2797/ps5972/prod_qas0900aecd80350bfc.html =>

Q. Which line cards are supported by Sup32?

A. All classic line cards and all CEF256 line cards (without a Distributed Forwarding Card [DFC]) are supported at FCS.

Q. Which line cards are not supported by Sup32?

A. The following series of line cards are not supported by Sup32: WS-X67XX, WS-X68XX, SFM, and DFC-based cards.

=================================================

The Sup32 engine is considered as a « classic module » that provide a connection to the classic 32GB Bus communicate with other line cards.

Unlike Sup720 (or SUP2T), your SUP32 has no built-in switch fabric module and cannot take advantage of a separate Switch Fabric Module (as the previous SUP-2 could).

As there is no Switch Fabric + no DFC in the chassis you cannot implement the feature for the synchronization of the mac address between the two entities.

(I should test if this command is possible within a system with a SUP720 but without any DFC module)..

(FYI 1 => if a WS-6708-10G module is present in, mac-synchronization is turned on automatically. If not it has to be enabled manually).

(FYI 2 => This feature is particularly intersting in a VSS environment)

Hope that helps..

Kind Regards

Karim

mac-address-table synchronise command

Hi Karim

Thanks for the email.

We have got one more issue while configuring the Qos on the same device.

We tried to implement wrr-queue random detect 1 & 2 & 3.

The "wrr" commands are accepted but when I run sh run int gi1/1(where wrr applied ),

it doesnt show the "wrr-queue random 3" , instead it shows it as "wrr-queue cos-map 1 1 0 1 2"

Any idea why its not showing up the queue-id 3???

Best regards,

Vi

mac-address-table synchronise command

Hello Veesri !

From the SUP32 command reference wrr-queue random-detect ( http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.2ZY/command/reference/W1.html#wp1022990 )

"The queue-id is 1 for the standard low-priority queue, 2 is for the standard high-priority queue, and 3 is for strict priority.

The threshold in the strict-priority queue is not configurable."

..certainly explaining why you cannot see it.

If you wish more information do not hesitate to open a spearate new post for the QoS and the following output => ‘show run int Gi1/1 ‘ / ‘show module 1 ’ or at least module 1 reference / and ‘show queuing interface Gi1/1’.

And definitely the ‘mac address-synchronize’ command is not supported in your case because the SUP32 does not support DFC line cards (SUP32 is in fact brought with a PFC3B but cannot support DFC line card modules).

(FYI I have tested the command with a SUP720 without any DFC line card and the command is accepted)..

Thanks.

Kind regards.

Karim
