I have 2948 switch running CatOS 6.3.7. One device is connected to the switch port and the port is showning connected, however we can not see the mac address of the device. Any idea how to find out the MAC address of this device..

No IP address, it's March device and we are trying to find its IP address using its MAC..

From the fact that there is no entry in the CAM I am assuming that it has been longer than the CAM aging time since the device has sent any frame. If you could get the device to send a frame then its MAC address should get added to the table. Perhaps if you disable and then enable the port (drop link and bring it back up) it would get the device to send a frame (or disconnect its cable and reconnect).

I have seen this with some of my IBM OSA devices. Either recycle the port (SET PORT DISABLE/ENABLE) or the device needs to be reinitialized. The connected status is just a layer one link that is seen. The MAC is not coming across probably because the device needs to initialize traffic or be reset....Good Luck...
