Maximum number of VLANS

Hello, I have a "simple" question.

Is there anyway to have more than 4096 vlans per switch? I read some articles on the Internet, and searched this forums. I know that the maximum number of vlans varies depending on the model of the switch, however I read some articles saying 4096 is a theoretically limit, and that I do not understand.

The VID on the header of a 802.1Q packet is 12bits (4096 max), and I know that I can do 802.1Q Tunnels, making it possible to encapsulate 802.1Q in 802.1Q making a theoretically limit of 4096x4096, however in my scenario where I have a core Ethernet network, and I have several costumers connect to my core network, sometimes they request that I provide layer 2 links between several of their offices, I can easily by attributing a CORE vlanid to them, and layer2-tunneling their traffic, so that their 802.1Q traffic is encapsulated in my 802.1Q traffic, but this leaves me with the capacity of 4096 customers of this kind, no more, is there really any way to surpass this value?
