Hi all, I'm trying to find out what this metal item is in a slot / hole in the back of the supervisor. See the attached picture. My line cards dont have this and it seems to stop the supervisor sitting in the chassis correctly. Its a sup2-2ge in a 6509. Any ideas? Thanks, Tom

Hi,

With 6500 chassis you can only install
supy cards in specific slots.

see this link:-
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/hardware/Module_Installation/Sup_Eng_Guide/supe_gd/01overvw.html#wp1069525

Looking at your photo (6509 chasis) and that you say you
a sup2-3ge.

Your SUP2 MUST be installed in slot 1 or 2

The metal blocks prevent the card from being installed in the wrong slots

Hi Alex,

Many thanks for your response that is exactly it! That document details it and I had just not seen this document, I'd read elsewhere that all the other supervisors go in slot 5 or 6 so I couldn't figure out why this one wouldn't go.

Thanks so much for your response.

Regards,

Tom
