Hello,
I am planning to monitor the backplane utilization of the Core 4503 using MRTG software. I tried with different MIB's but couldn't monitor. Please suggest me whether we can monitor that using MRTG.The software running is

Yes, it is possible to monitor using MIB, but the the device name that has to be monitored should be entered in the SNMP server for periodic updates.

Hello,
In your Mrtg cfg file enter the following:
Target[IP address of switch-BU]:.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.1.8&.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.1.8:readcommunity@ip address of switch
This should give you the % of backplane bandwidth utilization.

Hi All,
There is is not command as such available right now on Cat4500 IOS for monitoring the backplane utilization.
On the Supervisors running CatOS or IOS. Normally, you can monitor backplane utilization for CatOS switches using CISCO-STACK-MIB:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk389/tk816/technologies_tech_note09186a0080
094a96.shtml
However, the Catalyst 4000 (IOS) does not support CISCO-STACK-MIB. Therefore, it is not
possible to monitor backplane utilization on the Cat4000 IOS via SNMP.
