MST / Rapid-PVST

Hi,

having a data center with 2 6506 Core switch and 25 3560 distribution/access switch

Using 25 differents vlan and only layer 2 switching, layer 3 is on 7600 routers due to network design.

At this time, using Rapid-PVST on this site and works fine

We plan to install an other data center with the same configuration, and both sites will be connected through DWDM

We want to see this 2 data centers as unique layer 2 lan (routing always on 7600 routers)

I plan to use now MST. What are the best benefits of MST versus R-PVST ? Reduce BPDU msg, is network convergence ok ... ???

We use 12.2(25) SED1 on 3560 and 12.2(18) SXF5 on 6506

Gilles

Re: MST / Rapid-PVST

They are essentially the same, 802.1w and 802.1s... both are IEEE standards now. MST has less BPDU messages, convergence should be the same as each other.

MST, I believe you no longer have the option of VTP... so you'll have to configure all the switch VLANs individually.

You may want to read the document below for further understanding. Looks complicating if you are going to mix environments.
