Multicast Anycast RP and MSDP question

I have two rendezvous points on different routers with MSDP peering between them setting up an Anycast RP environment. Here are the router's config regarding multicast:

Router1:

interface Loopback0

ip address 16x.x2.239.5 255.255.255.255

!

interface Loopback1

ip address 16x.7x.239.42 255.255.255.255

ip pim sparse-mode

!

!

ip pim rp-address 16x.7x.239.42

ip msdp peer 16x.7x.239.18 connect-source Loopback0

ip msdp originator-id Loopback0

Router2:

interface Loopback0

ip address 16x.7x.239.18 255.255.255.255

!

interface Loopback1

ip address 16x.7x.239.42 255.255.255.255

ip pim sparse-mode

!

!

ip pim rp-address 16x.7x.239.42

ip msdp peer 16x.7x.239.5 connect-source Loopback0

ip msdp originator-id Loopback0

I have 'ip pim sparse-mode' on every interface - but do I need to have 'ip pim sparse-mode' on the L1 interfaces?

Configuring "ip sparse-mode" on the loopback interface is only required if you use auto-rp. It wouldn't be required in your case.

hope this helps,

If I may I'd like to ask another question concerning the placement of the RPs. I want two of them in my environment for redundancy and will config the L1 interface of both the same as in the MSDP example.

Since all of our enterprise traffic comes into our main campus for internet access, server host system access, video streaming services etc, is it best to have both RPs here at the main campus?

I know I can have them anywhere, but was also told to have them closest to the actual multicast servers in order to keep the shared-tree state to a minimum (I don't know if I am expaining it correctly)

Anyway I'd like to have the two RPs be our two distribution WAN routers which are one hop away from each other.

Does that sound OK, or would you recommend I disperse the two RPs to different geographic sites?
