Multicast

Recently replaced our core campus switch with a 6513. Our edge switches consists of 3750s and some Avava Cajun 330.

Our IT staff uses Ghost to image PCs. They said since the core was replaced multicast for Ghost no longer works.

Our old core Avaya 882 switch had multicast enabled. Our Cajun 330 edge switches support the following for multicast. The Avaya P330 supports multicast filtering. The P330 learns which switch ports need to receive which multicast packets and configures the necessary information into the switch's hardware tables. This learning is based on IGMP (version 1 or 2)snooping.

I need to know how to enable multicast on the 6513 for Ghost and also on the 3750s. The Cajun 330s have what they call intelligent multicast as described above and need them to work with multicast as well.

The IT staff is using Ghost across a numbers of VLANs. To prevent network issues is there a best practice for use Ghost on our campus network so as to not saturate the nework. Is there a means to throttle Ghost?

Hello Craig,

in your core router you need

ip multicast-routing

+

ip pim dense-mode on all SVI VLans

on C3750 you just need to check the igmp snooping is enabled with sh ip igmp snooping

see the following link

About how to control Ghost BW usage you should use modular QoS to shape this type of traffic

hope to help
