My kid pulled my CP out now getting Illegal MAC address error

So my kid was playing around and pulled the CF out of my 2801 router. It is a router I use at home for testing purposes. Well now I am getting an error Illegal MAC when I try to use rommon to tftpdnld a new IOS. I have also tried xmodem without success. I did read about bad cookies but there wasnt really an answer to the problems presented. Can someone point me in the right place.

This provides no help whatsoever. I have tried tftpdnld. I have scoured the internet for corrupt cookies on a router and I keep seeing the same answers. You have to go into priv mode on a router and change them. To what I dont know. I am still looking. This is crazy. If all I need to do is pull out a CF to brick a router suprised many hackers havent developed software to do this.

I have messed with the cookies and all I need is the first line of a cookie from a 2801 router. If you have one please post so I can input this on my system. Such a PITA. Thanks in advance.

So through trail and error I was able to manipulate the cookie to finally work on my machine. This address helped tremendously.

I did have to make up a MAC address but I used this address http://standards.ieee.org/develop/regauth/oui/oui.txt
to at least get the correct vendor type.

Everything loaded from there. There are so many people who stated it was a compact flash issue. This was not the case at all. It was a corrupt cookie on the mainboard.

Hey Oscar,

Just make sure that the CF is pushed all the way in. This is probably the problem as to why the router is booting in ROMMON (since the image in not there).

Hope this was the issue.
