N7K SUP2E - FAB2 - F2 - IOS UPGRADES

Hi All

We are coming up with an effort to upgrade our N7K's (Core & Aggr). We have around 5 VDCs today.

Existing - dual SUP1s with 5.1.5 - Fab 1 - M1/M2 modules.

Proposed - dual SUP2Es with 6.2.8 - Fab 2 - M2/F2 modules

What we planned was:

Step 1) Upgrade the IOS's in SUP1 -> 5.1(5) to 5.2(7) to 6.2(8)  --> do we need to upgrade the EPLD's manually ?

Step 2) Replace FAB1 with FAB 2 (OIR)

Step 3) Upgrade the dual Supervisors - SUP1 to SUP2E -> do we need to take care of anything here ?

Step 4 ) upgrade or replace the modules

We are aware that we can also directly upgrade the SUP1 to SUP2E with 6.2(8), but we wanted to do IOS upgrade first, and see how 6.2(8) works in our environment for a week or two. We have had so many bugs with N5Ks and wanted to be safe.

Is this upgrade procedure right ? Can someone shed light on this, if you have done this before ?

Step 1 and Step 3 doesn't

Step 1 and Step 3 doesn't make any sense.

Why upgrade the NX-OS of the Sup1 (Step 1) when you're going to be replacing them (Step 3).  It won't make any difference because Sup1 and Sup2E are just different beasts.

Hi,As Leo also said, upgrade

Hi,

As Leo also said, upgrade all your hardware first then do the software upgrade.

Hello,we have such the same

Hello,

Soon, we have the same upgrade to perform as the one you described above ;

I was wondering whether it was useful to first migrate the SUP1 from 5.1(5) to 5.2(7) to 6.2(8), as you described, instead of just replacing directly the Sup1 by the Sup2 ;

about this point, I can see in the N7K Hardware Installation Guide (Sup1 to Sup2 replacement procedure in chap 10) that mentions this sentence :

"We recommend that you use Cisco NX-OS Release 5.2 (or later release) on the Supervisor 1 module while performing the migration. "

As we are currectly with 2 Sup1+ NX-OS 5.1(6), this would mean first to upgrade NX-OS on Sup1 which can be time-consuming

What did you do finally during this upgrade ?

Can you give us some feedback about your upgrade operation ?

thanks in advance
