Can someone explain to me what native IOS is. what is the difference between native and whatever else there is.

Native IOS is the Cisco IOS. Hybrid IOS, is used on L3 switches, where you use CatOS on the switch and IOS on the RSM, MSFC or whatever. When you use only IOS to control both L2 and L3 functionality of the switch they call it native IOS.
