Need a way to provide redundancy to a non STP-supported Ring

Good day,

We are currently in this situation, using a Cisco 3750X stack Allen-Bradley ETAP modules.

As the ETAP document states, STP is not supported in the lower 'DLR' ring.

Therefor they say that the above setup is not supported (while in other document they claim STP is supported on ETAP generally).

We have setup this system now, with the 2 ETAPs but only one is connected to the Stack.

The other cable is present and is at the switch, but is not plugged in.

As a workaround, I could disable (shut) the port on the switch and plug the cable in anyway.

If an ETAP would crash I could manually enable the other port to keep things running.

But this is not my ideal solution, I want this to happen automatically.

Are there any ways to do this please? Any ideas?

Thanks a lot,

Joris
