Generally it is the functionality.
Also SMB switches tend to have a GUI which Enterprise switches do not.
If you wanted 256 switch ports I would be looking at either the enterprise line of switches or the Cisco Meraki range of cloud managed switches. I would personally lean towards the cloud managed switches at that port density.

Hi
SMB and Enterprise switches (like catalyst) are used on companies but the SMB (like SG200, SG250 or others) is focused for SOHO, medium companies. Some differences between SMB and Catalyst:
SMB cli commands have some differences with IOS.
Catalyst is more robust talking about hardware, you can insert modules.
SMB uses different SFP modules, they are called mini SFP.
Catalyst supports multiple power supplies.
Catalyst with specific license and model can support routing protocols and as I remember some SMB can support static routes only.
Now you have other line of Cisco switches as Philip mentioned and they are the Meraki, they are great switches as well, the difference is you can have a centralized management at the cloud, it is very useful because you can handled them from anywhere and withouth VPNs.
Hope it is useful
:-)
