Need help with optimal method to gauge link throughput...

Could anyone offer suggestions on the best method to monitor the data being sent over a link? I have 2 Blade servers, 1 primary and a backup in the same location. I would like to move the backup to a different physical location and need to determine the link speed required for the backups from the primary. I was wondering if there was a way to monitor the traffic on a VLAN or would something like a SPAN have to be used on the entire physical port?
I would like to collect information such as the time the link is being utilized and the amount of data being sent over the link.

Thanks for any advice! -Mark

Well I've been doing some more research and it seems like the NetFlow option will do what I need. I'm not sure yet if the switches support NetFlow so I'm still wondering if there's a program like an NFC that can analyze a SPAN and present information like the NFC?
