Dear Sir,

I need to replace IOS in Cisco Catalyst 6505 core switch.

Ols scenario :

POY_MSFC2#dir bootflash:

Directory of bootflash:/

1 -rw- 14827396 Jan 28 2009 20:39:27 +05:30 c6msfc2-jsv-mz.121-26.E3.bin

31981568 bytes total (17153916 bytes free)

POY_MSFC2#sh bootvar

BOOT variable = bootflash:c6msfc2-jsv-mz.121-26.E3.bin,1

CONFIG_FILE variable =

BOOTLDR variable =

Configuration register is 0x102

Now I need to replace this IOS with

c6msfc2-jsv-mz.121-8b.E6.bin

I have copied it in bootflash:.

Now scenario is :

POY_MSFC2#dir bootflash:

Directory of bootflash:/

1 -rw- 14827396 Jan 28 2009 20:39:27 +05:30 c6msfc2-jsv-mz.121-26.E3.bin

2 -rw- 12269252 May 26 2009 13:53:13 +05:30 c6msfc2-jsv-mz.121-8b.E6.bin

31981568 bytes total (4884664 bytes free)

POY_MSFC2(config)#boot system flash bootflash:c6msfc2-jsv-mz.121-8b.E6.bin

POY_MSFC2#sh bootvar

BOOT variable = bootflash:c6msfc2-jsv-mz.121-8b.E6.bin,1

CONFIG_FILE variable =

BOOTLDR variable =

Configuration register is 0x102

Now presently older IOS is running. So I need to reload to use newer IOS.

I had reloaded MSFCs but new IOS was not used.Instead Older one is loaded and Bootvar is changed automatically like this :

POY_MSFC2#sh bootvar

BOOT variable = bootflash:c6msfc2-jsv-mz.121-26.E3.bin,12;bootflash:c6msfc2-jsv-mz.121-8b.E6.bin,1

CONFIG_FILE variable =

BOOTLDR variable =

Configuration register is 0x102

Now how to resolv it pls suggest ?

Should I del older IOS from Bootdisk: ?

Weather it will allow to del it as the same IOS is running?

Pls Reply Soon.

Hi Mahmood

Thanks for the reply.

Could you pls tell me how can I remove it?

Weather it will affect the running system as other Card on the same CORe switch is running and NW is working on that Card.

Pls reply soon
