hi,

1) First question, What the best Backbone & layer 2 switch (must support Trunking) i'll buy on this scenario

Backbone Switch(support ACL)locate at Server room

Layer 2 Switch (support Vlan)use for every floor Switch.

For Example for backbone, we configure 6 Vlan with different IP address.

For each Floor we configure Different Vlan Example

first Floor on ly have 2 Vlan ( Vlan 1 and Vlan 3).

2nd Floor only 3 Vlan ( Vlan 1 3 and 6).

and same other....which configure different Vlan.

2 ) Second question, is there a way that we can configure Trunk Vlan to make backbone and layer 2 switch communicate because each Floor only have one cat6 cable to connect to backbone switch..?

3) Can we assign Ip address of each Vlan to become a gateway for each pc assign on the Vlan..?

Thanks in advance

HI, [Pls Rate if HELPS]

Backbone Switch:

CISCO Cat 4000 Series Switches

L2 Switches:

CISCO 2950 Switches

Eg: Trunk Scenario

Floor I port 1/24 (trunk) ==> Server Room

Foor III port 1/24 (trunk) ==> Server Room

Trunk Port:

>> Will carry all VLAN Traffic to the Server Room Backbone Switch

Eg: VLAN as Gateway Scenario

VLAN2: 10.1.0.0 (Subnet)

Gw: 10.1.0.1

VLAN3: 10.2.0.0 (Subnet)

Gw: 10.2.0.1

The 1st IP Address of each VLAN Subnet can be used as VLAN Router IP and same as GW for CLients.

Hope this Helps

Hi..

thanks for a quick reply, btw can we used CISCO cat 3560 as a Backbone switch..

HI, [Pls Rate if HELPS]

Go-ahead and pls see it supports all your Backbone Requirements as planned.

Organization Size / Density: Medium-Sized means it is recommended.

Refer link below for CISCO Cat 3560 Data Sheet:
