Network getting down even after configuring Static MACs

Hi all,

I'm practicing STP. What i have done is i disabled STP on both of my switches so the network went down because of the MAC table instabiity due to which broadcast storm occured and whole network went down.

Now what i'm trying to do is i want to bring the network up without enabling STP. So what i had done is i configued all the mac address on both switches perfectly but still the networking is not working.

I'm attaching my toplogy pic. Can someone please help me ?

Switch1's MAC table:

Switch1#show mac-address-table

          Mac Address Table

-------------------------------------------

Vlan    Mac Address       Type        Ports

----    -----------       --------    -----

   1    0001.979c.9150    STATIC      Fa0/10

Switch2's MAC table:

Network getting down even after configuring Static MACs

Hi,

broadcast frames will always be flooded so one ARP request will still generate a broadcast storm which will not be mitigated by STP as you have disabled it. You should never disable STP on switches.

Network getting down even after configuring Static MACs

Hi Cadet,

Actually as per my knowledge switch will flood if and only if it doesn't know the MAC address of a particular thing.

Here i configured MAC addresses of all the devices that are connected and active in the network. Then where is the possibilty for the switch to flood frames.

Network getting down even after configuring Static MACs

Hi,

broadcast are always flooded because they can never be source MACs but only destination MACs.

ARP requests are broadcast frames so they will be flooded.

Hi,

Yes it should work  with static arp entries on the hosts but this is really not a good wqy of doing things.

Actually i'm doing trial and error. However no one will implement these type of configuration on real networks i guess.

I'll get you back after configuring static ARPs.

Thanks a lot for your info.
