Nexus 2248 sfp ports

On the nexus 2248TP & 2232TM , i can physically see four 10GE & eight 10GE ports respectively.

In this setup, we have used up two 10GE ports on each of 2248 & 2232 for fex connection to single parent Nexus 5548.

In the interface output, it shows only 32 ports on the extenders under eth101/1/1- eth101/1/32.

Shouldn't it show e the SFP ports on the extender as well?

thanks in advance!

There are commands to look at the FEX network interfaces, but it really depends on the information you are looking for.

The show interface fex-fabric command will give you the Nexus 5K interfaces in use for FEX and which FEX network interface these are connected to.

There are also commands you can run directly on the FEX that will provide some additional information. If you run the command attach fex e.g., attach fex 101 you can then run commands directly on the FEX. The show platform software portola sts (Nexus 2248) or show platform software woodside sts (Nexus 2232) will give you some very fancy ASCII art of both the Host and Network Interface status. Use the show ? when attached to the FEX for other options. Use the exit command to disconnect from the FEX and get back to the Nexus 5K command prompt.

Hi,

The ports you are referring to are known as the FEX Network Interfaces (NI) and as you say, are those that connect the FEX to the parent Nexus switch. If you think of the FEX as a network I/O module that we have in other platforms e.g., Catalyst 6500, these ports are effectively the connection to the switch backplane and as such do not appear in the output of commands such as show interface etc.

Depending upon what information you are looking for you can use the statistics from the ports on the parent Nexus switch that are connected to the NI ports on the FEX.

Thanks. I tried using the fex outputs, but it only shows the port that is connected on the N5K side and none from the fex used on the 2248/2232 side.

So that means there is no output available to see the port status on N2k's, only fex status will show the state.
