OIR-6-PWRFAILURE: Module 1 is being disabled due to power convertor failure

Hi,

I'm experiencing failures with WS-X6724-SFP and WS-X6748-SFP line cards when installed in a Catalyst 6509-E with Supervisor-2T.

with the following error message

OIR-6-PWRFAILURE: Module 1 is being disabled due to power convertor failure

We've tried different software versions of IOS, with the same issue. Firstly with 15.1(1)SY and secondly with 12.2(50)SY4

The attachment shows all the error messages from the log files for both versions.

What I would like to know is if these errors are definitely due to hardware problems with the line cards themselves or is this likely due to some incompatibility issue between the 67xx-SFP line cards and the Sup-2T? The fact we've had 2 line cards fail with the same error seems a bit suspicious.

Thanks

John

It's a hardware failure of the line card.

Try to move the line card to a different slot.  If you move the line card to a different slot and it's still not powering up, then this confirms the line card harware failure.

If the move to a different slot powers up the line card, then you are looking at a backplane issue with your chassis (highly unlikely).
