order for installing network equipment in a rack

Hello,

We are getting a new rack and i wanted to check with you guys if there is a specific sequence/oder or a standarad that needs to be followed when mounting network equipment to a rack or is it up to personal preference. I am posting the details of equipment below, please let me know what do you guys think.

It's a Panduit rack

Ethernet patch panel

Fiber adapter patch panel

For WAN

Cisco 2851 router

Cisco 2951 router

For LAN

Cisco 3750 3 stack switches for inter vlan routing

2 Cisco 3560 switches

2 Juniper WXC's

2 Riverbed Steelhead 2600 series devices

What should be at the top and what should be at the bottom. Thanks in adavance for the help

Hi

  Place on this sequence , you will have good understanding (WAN CONNECTVITY- WAN ACCELATOR - APPLICATION ACCELERATION-USERDISTRIBUTION-USER ACCESS)

1) WAN ROUTER

2) Riverbed

3) Juniper WCX

4) if your 3560 is your user distrbution place it below your Juniper

5) if your 3750 is your user access

I agree with the above post but a little tip is to mark on the rack frame where everything is going to go and start with the lowest device first.

It's easier to rest a device on one already in the rack before you secure it than to hold it up whilst it gets secured

You have patch panels on top?

If this is the case, this is how I'd do it ...

Fibre optic tray/patch panel

Patch panels ...

Switches

Riverbed

Routers.

Thanks Guys for replies and yes the patch panels will be at top but i havent decided to keep what panel first but this is what i am thinking.

a) Ethernet Panel (for users on this floor only)

b) Fiber Panel (we have eigrp routing with other floor switches so the fiber of other floors will terminate here, 10 floors at total)

c) Cisco 3750 siwtches stack , count = 3 (for fiber patch cord termination and servers connection)... Core/distribution switch

d) 2 Cisco 3560 access switches

e) 2 Riverbeds

f) 2 Junipers WXC's (They will be decomissioned after 5 to 6 months)

g) 2 Routers
