OT: Command Prompt Hangs after Telnet timeout

So in windows if i have a telent session open to a router/switch after a while it will timeout. Typically if that command prompt has been open for several hours, when i come back to it i cannot exit or close the window. Going into task manager and trying to kill the process does nothing, i can't reboot or shutdown from windows. The only way to fix it is to physically power off the PC.

My question is, is anyone else experiencing this and do they have a solution. If not, what are my alternatives in windows for using the built in telent? (I despise hyperterminal, so that's out)

Thanks all!

Re: OT: Command Prompt Hangs after Telnet timeout

Hello Jon,

try to use putty it is free

http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html

it should allow you to close an inactive window

And provides you logging capabilities and you can save sessions.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
