We are going to use 10GE lines, together with etherchannels.
In the spanning-tree pathcost short mode, there is no difference between a 10GE link and an etherchannel of 3x 1GE links. It's both 2. We would like to use the long method, but some access switches don't support this ling method.
Is it whise to use the both in combination?
I have been testing, and noticed strange behaviour, like there is no convertion from long to short and visa versa. 2 in short stays 2 in long.
Yes, switches do not convert from short to long. You can mix long pathcost with short, but be careful -- this may lead to non-optimal paths in the network. Also, if you enable MST, long pathcost is enabled automatically.
