Hi we currenkly have 26 3550 xls and 30 3550 smi. the smi work a lot better and we are getting performace issuses with all our xl's slowness and high response times etc. Can anyone recommend the next best thing from 3550 smi. The switchs have to be stackable and be able to have different vlans on different ports. If possible i would be looking for gigabnit interfaces. Thanks

Hi

If you need the switches to be stackable, you are pretty much stuck with the 3750 series at the minute. The data sheet is below:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps5023/products_data_sheet0900aecd80371991.html

I'm slightly confused with the 3750 model as they say they can be managed by one 1 ip address, but how do you configure different vlans on a stack of 4 switches if when they connect the auotmatically configure all switches the same ?

Mate,

The Catalyst 3750 enables you to use 1 IP address (Cluster Commander) to manage all of your stacked switches ... nothing confusing about this.

Catalyst 3750 is a good series to move to where you will have high performance and inter-VLAN routing. Don't get the enhanced image since it doesn't look that you require it.

Cheers.

S.
