POE not aware devices X Cat6 X POE switch 1000T

Hi,

We are considering change our switches.

This is the scenario:

- Small network, about 80 ports (currently with some 3com and Cisco 100TX switches connected by uplinks)

- Cat6 (yes six) all over the network

- Printers/Desktops/Notebooks/etc... connected

We are thinking about the WS-3750G-48PS-S model, because in near future we may need POE.

So we have some few basic questions:

1-) Will the switch work with devices that are not aware of POE or will them get fried?

2-) Is the cabling ok for that?

3-) May I put one new 3750 and keep the old switches connected by uplinks to it? Keep in mind that those switches are also not POE aware.

4-) Will gigabit ethernet run on devices that have this option?

5-) Will it be just plug and play or will we need to do a lot of configurations?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Marlon
