Port channel in cisco WS-C6509

Hi

I am planning to do ethernet portchannel with two Gi ethernet ports. Any experience how L3 port channel works. If i put a ip address under e.g interface Port-channel1 config does it inherit/copy to interface GigabitEthernet 1/1 and 1/2 config.

interface Port-channel1
shutdown
des PortCh
no switchport
ip address 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.0

interface GigabitEthernet 1/1

shutdown
does ip address copy here

no switchport
channel-group 1 mode on

interface GigabitEthernet 1/2
shutdown
does ip address copy here

no switchport
channel-group 1 mode on

OK. thanks. So ip adress does not appear under those two Gi ethernet port config at all. It stays only under that portchannel config.

Correct, the IP address will only show up under the port-channel interface.

Hi,

The IP address is assigned under the Etherchannel interface not the physical interfaces.

Have a look at this document on how to configure it:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.1E/native/configuration/guide/channel.html
