Here is the output:

TDR test last run on: February 27 23:06:23

Interface Speed Local pair Pair length        Remote pair Pair status

--------- ----- ---------- ------------------ ----------- ---------------

Gi1/0/19  auto  Pair A     91   +/- 0  meters N/A         Normal

                Pair B     87   +/- 0  meters N/A         Normal

                Pair C     90   +/- 0  meters N/A         Normal

                Pair D     88   +/- 0  meters N/A         Normal

Entire length of the cable looks good.

What's the IOS of your switch?

IOS of my switch is:

Cisco IOS Software, C2960S Software (C2960S-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 12.2(55)SE5, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Here is some tests I had just done:

I replace 1 fail AP with a new one and it work just fine (like 40 others without the

"power inline port 2x-mode")

I test the fail AP in a HP POE switch and it work instantly...let it completly boot and connect with the controller

I put it back in my 2960 and fail again, I add the "power inline port 2x-mode" and this time it worked

I delete the 2x-mode and I'm back to the "power Imax error detected",put the 2x-mode again and it stop spamming me the error

Now, I'm absolutly sure I don't understand what's this mean...Is these 2 AP will fail again?  Do I need to add the 2x-mode on every AP of this kind? Is the 2x-mode overheat the AP or its just my mind that tricks me when I touched the device?

power inline port 2x-mode

I'm done with tests tonight, just monitoring the AP and see if something strange happens.

thanks!

power inline port 2x-mod

power inline port 2x-mod

power inline port 2x-mode

I've got 2960S and 3750X and I must humbly admint, I've never used this command line before.

Did you connect the AP directly to the switch port?

Hmmmm ... May I see the config of the offending port?  I've got a strange feeling that you have a command line that shouldn't be there.

yes I got the same problem when connecting the AP directly in the switch port and any port.

Here is the port config (same on all port, except the 2x-mode that others identicals AP dont need :S)

description AP-ARUBA

switchport access vlan 204

switchport mode access

switchport priority extend trust

power inline port 2x-mode

srr-queue bandwidth share 5 15 30 50

srr-queue bandwidth shape 0 0 0 0

priority-queue out

spanning-tree portfast

spanning-tree bpduguard enable

service-policy input reclass-cos

thanks

Odd.

Try this:

conf t

default interface

interface

switchport mode access

switchport access vlan 204

spanning-tree portf

spanning-tree bpduguard enable

Try the interface commands above and let me know.

OK, now these 2 AP are working with or without the 2x-mode.  They are probably failed and unstable and the HP switch are less sensible to their hardware failure then the csico switch? Anyway, I will open a case at Aruba for a RMA on those AP.

thanks guys!

Andre,

I reviewed your TDR output and I believe you have a cable issue 90 metres along the cable run.

Yes, the "status" shows NORMAL but look at the "Remote Pair" readings.  They are "N/A".

Im having this same error. Some differences:

This is on a ws-3650-48PD, with version is 16.3.5b, The cable length is close to limits of 100 Meters, but does certify under Siemens Specs.

The device(s) on the remote side is a Kantech K-1 Door controller. (These have been RMA'd with the same results)

I have two of these devices on this switch, one on gig1/0/23 and 24. 24 became stable once I forced power inline max 30000, 23 as not been stable. Both Kantechs sit within a foot of one another.

Cisco TAC had me move to gig1/0/23 from 1/0/27 as different ASIC might make a difference... it did for about 30 hours.

Extending the cable further is not an option as we're out as far as spec allow.

Any other suggestions?

This was the fix for me.  Had 2 runs with shorts causing the issue.

Hello Guys

I have a same problem which is as follows:

We have about 2000 Nortel 1120E IP phone in production and as per Avaya PN that due to the designed fault in power module of the IP phone, the power module will fail after three years, which is start happening now. We have found the solution to repair the power module of the phone but when any IP phone fails due to the power module, our Cisco 3750 keep generating SYSLOG ( %ILPOWER-3-CONTROLLER_PORT_ERR: Controller port error, Interface Gi4/0/9: Power Controller reports power Imax error detected) rather than ERRDISABLE the port.

So, is there way that as soon as switch detected this error then it can errdiable the port ? I have checked on switch about ERRDIABLE configuration which is as follows:

ErrDisable Reason            Detection    Mode

inline-power                 Enabled      port

pppoe-ia-rate-limit          Enabled      port

Below are the info about our Cisco Switches:

Model No: WS-C3750G-24PS-E

Cisco IOS Software, C3750 Software (C3750-IPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.2(55)SE5,

I hope some one will have solution.

Thank you all.

Vinod

Try this ...

1.  Command:  test cable tdr int G4/0/9;

2.  Wait for 5 to 7 seconds;

3.  Command:  sh cable tdr int G4/0/9; and

4.  Post the output to #3.

Hi Leo

Thank you for your quick response but as I said before that Nortel IP phnoe has a designed fault in power module so it meant to fail and cisco switch generate syslog for this Power Controller reports power Imax error detected. Once we replace with new phone, the error disappear and works all fine.

Now the solution I am looking for this issue as follows:

While the faulty IP phone still pluged in and keep booting, the switch generate error log and our syslog server keep sending out email alert until one of our engineer log into switch and shut the port. Very often if this happen in weekend or at night then we get hundreds of email.

Therfore I think it would be nice if Cisco 3750 put this swithport into errdisable state but it's not happening.

This is the output of errdisable;

#sh errdisable detect
ErrDisable Reason            Detection    Mode
-----------------            ---------    ----
arp-inspection               Enabled      port
bpduguard                    Enabled      port

===========================================

Another thing that this command "power inline port 2x-mode" is not available in our IOS, I am not sure how this command will help.

Look forward for someone response.

Thank you all.

Vinod,

Just want to make sure you've got 3750/G/E/X switch.  Because the answer to your question is an EEM script.

I would strongly recommend you create a new thread and post the new thread in the EEM Script section.  In the new thread, give as much details as you can, what you want the switch to do and someone, maybe Joe, will knock up an EEM script to automate stuff for you.

PS:  Post the link to the new thread here so people will know where to go.

Hi,

What is the use of configuring  command "power inline port 2x-mode".
