Considering you issued wr I don't see why. NVRAM memory should hold config for long time.

Does the switch come back with config after a regular reload? Then it should work also after an extended outage. If not, you probably messed up with the switch settings (config-register).

A chance, yes, although as the other posters have already noted, such loss often would indicate some other problem.

Flash should hold contents for much, much longer than 8 hours. Not sure what's the actual specification is, but I expect it might run into years, if not decades.

Just remembered something ... Exactly what IOS version are you running?

There is a known bug with 3.6.6E where the appliance might boot up without a config.
