ppp hostname, and router username

Hi all, On my dialer config I put a ppp chap hostname and password for the remote router, I then did a debug ppp negotation, it said no username found, so I set up a username under the global config and it worked, why is this, I thought that the ppp hostname should work ?

Re: ppp hostname, and router username

Hi carl,

When we configure the dialer config, router always look for the username and password configured on the router local database. It doesnot look for the Username password under the dialer interface. Please look at link below for config :

Re: ppp hostname, and router username

Hi Carl,

By default Cisco router identifies it self with its hostname. If you want override that hostname when the router negotiates with the peer router then we use that command " ppp chap hostname " under the interface. Plesae see the link below for more information

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/471/understanding_ppp_chap.html#chapconfig

HTH, Please rate if it does.
