Private-vlan configuration issues

I have a 6500 switch configured with a single primary vlan and multiple secondary vlans mapped to it (see below).

First, Everything works fine.  However, when I try to associate another secondary vlan (i.e. vlan 501) on gi7/1 interface all traffic to that interface drops for several seconds then comes back online.  My guess is that the interface goes into a spanning-tree learning state which droppes traffic.  Is that the case? or could there be configuration changes made to prevent that from happeneing?

Second, if I add another vlan to the private-vlan mapping on the layer3 vlan interface will the layer3 traffic drop in the same manner?  Obviously, if the above is a spanning-tree issue I should be able to make changes to the layer 3 interface without traffic dropping?  I would just like to confirm.
