problem accessing a 3550 switch

Hi,

When accessing by the console port, by rollover cable, I just cannot send any character, but i get all the feed back from the switch.

Any idea?

I only observed that there is never the enable status or the active one. Only the ready one.

Connect the rollover cable to the port marked CONSOLE on the rear panel of the switch.

If needed, connect the appropriate Terminal DTE adapter to the COMM port on the back of the PC.

Connect the other end of the rollover cable to the PC that runs the Terminal Emulation Software.

Start the Terminal Emulation software.For example, complete these steps in order o start Hyper Terminal Emulation Software on the PC:

From the Start Menu, choose Programs > Accessories > Hyper Terminal.

This opens the Hyper Terminal folder in a new window.

Double-click on Hypertrm.exe file.

This starts the Hyper Terminal Software and a new window appears.

Enter the Name of the Connection, under Name, and click OK.

You see a popup window that shows Country code, Area code, Phone number, and Connect using.

From the pull-down button in front of Connect Using, choose Direct to Com 1 or Direct to Com 2, which depends on the COM port on which you have connected the DTE Terminal Adapter, and click OK.

You see another popup window labeled as COM1 Properties.

Make these selections from the pull-down buttons:

Bits per second: 9600

Data Bits: 8

Parity: None

Stop bits: 1

Flow control: None

After you make the selections, click OK.

You see a blank, white screen with cursor that blinks on the top-left corner.

Once connected, if you want to save this session for your future use, from the File menu, choose Save.

This session is saved in the Hyper Terminal folder in a file that is named file_name.ht, where file_name is the name of the connection that you have previously saved.

Note: In the future, if you want to connect with the use of the saved file, simply double-click the file_name.ht file in the Hyper Terminal folder.

Thank's for the information provided.

Actually the problem was located at physical level. We simply needed to open the switch and verifying the 8 pins of the female RJ45 connector, one of them were tortured, and everything went OK.
