Programming packet tracer help.

First I am asked to reconfigure the start configuration Connect SW0 and SW1 together using the remaining gigabit ports with a cross-over cable.

I did that.

The next part asked to modify the switch priority of SW1 the minimum amount to make it STP root switch.

I used the command spanning-tree vlan 1 root primary

But get a error saying

Switch>spanning-tree vlan 1 root primary

                     ^

% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

Why won't it work and what will the the connection between the two switches be like ?

Programming packet tracer help.

hi anthony,

the command should be done in global config mode. see below:

Switch(config)#spanning-tree vlan 1 root ?

primary    Configure this switch as primary root for this spanning tree

secondary  Configure switch as secondary root

Switch(config)#spanning-tree vlan 1 root primary

this command will ensure that this switch has the lowest bridge priorty value, thus making it the root bridge.

are you creating a lab network wherein switches are connected in a triangular fashion?
