Qos details

Hi

Having 1 query on Qos

In between switch-router , we have 1G port & we are plan to do Qos implementation.

We are plan to allocate 400M B/w ( exceeding 400M will drop the traffic) for voice traffic in 1G Uplink

My query is : Assuming 400M voice path is full, so the traffic will drop or when 1G ( Entire Physical interface ) Interface will fully utilized then traffic will drop

Also what are the main criteria/prerequisite needs to check when we try to deploy Qos for VOIP traffic

Sorry, don't understand you comment.  Normally when mixing policers and shapers, priority would depend on how your policy is structured.

It depends on how you're doing the 400 Mbps VoIP policing.  Many router implementations of LLQ will only police when there's interface congestion.  Explicit policers, though, will always police as the defined value.

Main criteria for VoIP is generally avoid delaying it or dropping it.  So, for example, on routers VoIP often is placed into a LLQ class and on switches a PQ class.
