QOS enabled?

Hi,

I was checking the QOS configuration of a switch and found this:

Switch>sh mls qos

QoS is disabled

QoS ip packet dscp rewrite is enabled

Can anyone tell me if QOS is in place or not? A show mls qos stats is showing the following:

Switch>sh mls qos interface fastEthernet 0/1 statistics

FastEthernet0/1

Re: QOS enabled?

Hi

If you type "mls qos" in global mode, then you switch on all qos processing. Without that command, all DSCP and or COS markings are passed through unchanged. You can check that with ethereal/wireshark.

Re: QOS enabled?

Sorry Simon, I am pretty new to QOS.

So, does it mean that from "LAN" perpective all traffic will have a best effort basis?

I mean "LAN" because maybe QOS is enabled on the "provide" router?

Thanks

Re: QOS enabled?

As long as you don't enable QOS on your switch, everything goes trough it as best effort. All markings are kept original and no special queueing based on any marking is done. Be careful in enabling QoS on your switch if your provider is using it. If you enable it without enabling some kind of trust on your ports, you will overwrite all DSCP/Precedence or COS Tags! Maby you suold ask your Provider what he is looking for.

Re: QOS enabled?

Hi Simon,

You mentioned "All markings are kept original and no special queueing based on any marking is done" however a show mls qos interface gig1/0/1 shows packets are being marked, so I am still not sure if it's working or not.

Re: QOS enabled?

Hi

You can verify it with a packet sniffer such as Ethereal/Wireshark.
