Qos on routed links

Hello,

I need to understand what and where to set my QOS for our new voice network. We have 2 mitel controllers seperated btw a routed link off of a 6513 and a 4507. The link is a 40 mb link and citrix is the only other traffic other than voice.

Do I need to prioritise the voice over this point to point link?

The voice and data vlans are on physically separate ports with only a few ports that have the pc and phone together. So there is no qos at the port level yet, but do I need layer3 QOS on the "no switchport" port that connects the two switches? and if so what would be the config.

thanks in advance.

Hi,

A lot depends on whether you are experiencing quality issues with your voice.

If you are, there's a bit to it (the solution) so it wouldn't be appropriate to suggest a particular config with the info that I have. But general areas you need to look into are:

* Low latency queuing (would apply on config between the switches)

* WRED (would apply on config between the switches)

* Call admission control (Apply on CA)

* Trust boundaries (apply on edge switches)

HTH,

Andres
