QOS

Hi all, when performing qos for my phones, should I use premium service 0x2e? is this expidited forwarding? if so whats the difference between assurued forwarding and expidited forwarding ?

HI Carl,

When doing voip, there are two types of voice traffic, one is call signalling and setup, the other is actual voice bearer traffic, ie the actual phone calls.

You want to set the voice bearer traffic to dscp EF, and the phone should do this for you by default, its configured within CM. You also want to have the setup and signalling as CS3 or similiar.

You would need to check the cisco recommendations, as they have changed somewhat over the years, i believe signalling may now be set as af3X.

The only real difference between AF and EF is that they are the accepted standards worldwide for EF-=Voice calls, AF=anything else you want to map this.
